Good design has flow. And it doesn’t take an interior designer to tell you this. Though I will die on a hill convincing you that this is as true as gravity if you don’t believe it. It just feels different.

One of the most interesting things to watch as a designer is someone’s response to good space. Clients will often feel something before they can describe why. And this extends well beyond clients. Most people can walk into a beautifully designed space and know that something feels right without necessarily seeing, or understanding, what’s creating the feeling.

But once it’s explained, you can’t not notice it. The way you perceive space changes forever.

And this is where our conversation about flow gets really interesting to me. Because in design, flow isn’t something we simply hope happens. We intentionally design the conditions for it.

We think about what propels movement, what interrupts it, what draws you in and around a space, and what creates friction. And that flow, or lack of it, influences everything, from our perception of a space to our larger experience within it, and ourselves.

My point is, if you really want to create a beautiful life and move through it with a sense of ease, you’ve GOT to have good flow in your home and in your life.

And this is how to get it.
